Hello again!
Welcome to the third instalment of my series of posts about my experiences at SEE —aka Saskatchewan Entertainment Expo. One of the most rewarding parts of my involvement with creating all the design work for the convention was the friendships I was able to forge as I took part in planning the convention. I’d long been a fan of the costume creations Vegas PG would come up with, and was so excited when Chris and Mike shared my interest in having her be a guest at the convention. As I already (sorta) knew Vegas from Facebook and Twitter, I was able to act as liaison between the convention’s Executive Directors and Vegas, helping to organize her trip, and stay in Saskatoon.
In the lead-up to the convention, Vegas also seemed to capture the attention of Saskatoon media, appearing in print interviews galore.

If you were the editor, whose photo would YOU have run? Vegas’ or mine?

Star Phoenix headline writers aren’t that mild-mannered, turns out.
Not only did Vegas make SEE her first Canadian convention appearance, but she created a custom, SEE-Exclusive print, which raised funds for SEE’s official charity, READ Saskatoon. Here’s a closer look at that print.

In addition to being a huge supporter of the convention, and very talented creatively, it turns out Vegas is also just a really nice person to know! Some of the SEE crew were fortunate enough to have dinner with her while she was in town, and it was an absolute blast.

We talked about our careers, and how we met our spouses, and of course, comic books.
As those of you who attended the convention know, Vegas was a huge draw, and the buzz was the same from everyone who met her: she was just so darn NICE!

Here she is signing my print, with the original art from MY Power Girl print in view. More on that in a future post, promise!
My little girl liked her instantly (even offering Vegas her prized Froggy toy to play with) and I only wish my wife had been in town for more of that weekend so that we all could have hung out a bit more.

Supergirl, Froggy Ballerina, and Power Girl—a winning Justice Society line-up if I ever heard one.
So if you’re ever at a convention where Vegas is a featured guest (and there are plenty, all over North America!) be sure to stop by her table and say hello! She’s a wonderful costumer, model, and is a great person, who I am glad to call friend. Be sure to follow her on Facebook, and also to check out HER pics from SEE 2013.

And, needless to say, she is an honorary lifetime member of YXE Comic Club
Thanks for reading! More artwork coming real soon. I love you.
