A Quick Trip Down the Number One

Hello Friend,

Good news from the road—or at least, the reliable stretch of highway between Saskatoon and Regina. I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be appearing at Regina Comic Arts Festival III later this month: Saturday, October 25, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., at the Regina Public Library, Central Branch (2311 12th Avenue).

It’s a small, one-day show that I’m really excited to check out. Having met some great Regina comic creators at Prairie Comics Festival in Winnipeg (more on that show soon!), I can’t wait to see more of the great stuff being created down there.

I’m genuinely excited to see these prairie comic arts festivals becoming more frequent. No disrespect to the coastal cities—Vancouver and Toronto are always wonderful—but it’s nice to see communities in the middle of the country building some momentum. There’s something grounding about meeting readers and creators who are from the same landscape you draw.

And as you probably know, I’ve got a soft spot for the Queen City. When my very favourite comic show, Sask Expo Regina folded, it was a real loss for the community (like Regina Fringe, and Folk Fest before it, another cherished public event that didn’t survive post-covid. Given REAL’s well-documented track record of controversy and mismanagement, it’s not hard to guess what went wrong there). That’s why I’m extra thrilled to have a new excuse to come back and connect with the city’s creative crowd.

So if you’re in Regina, come out, say hello, and check out the work of some great local and regional creators. I haven’t done a Regina show since putting out Don’t Know (Maybe So) Volume 3, or my new greeting card, so I’ll have new stuff!

And while I’ve already done my due diligence on Regina’s best steakhouse (I’ve hit both The Diplomat and Golf’s), feel free to send me your other food recommendations. I’m already a fan of The Mercury Grill, but I’m open to new contenders.

And since I’m nothing if not thrifty, I’m reusing this image I created for the much mourned Sask Expo Regina, of me excitedly about to give Regina a big old hug.

Not to scale.

Hope to see you there. In the next little while I’ll do a recap of the aforementioned PCF show in Winnipeg, and some other odds and ends.

Thanks for reading, I love you.
